Synopsis

A grotesque scientist attempts to create his own version of Alice in Chains, using strange equipment and unsettling laboratory imagery. As the experiment develops, distorted figures and flashes of the band appear amid the dark, surreal setting. The clip's macabre story mirrors the song's bleak atmosphere, turning the idea of being "born again" into something sinister rather than hopeful. The musicians are presented through older footage, giving the video an eerie, fragmented quality.

Factoids & Trivia

• The video was released in 1999 to promote "Get Born Again," one of two new Alice in Chains songs included on the compilation *Nothing Safe: Best of the Box*.

• The band footage was assembled from earlier videos. Layne Staley, Jerry Cantrell, and Sean Kinney appear in material taken from "Sea of Sorrow," while Mike Inez is seen in footage from "What the Hell Have I."

• Because it relies on archival material rather than newly filmed performances, the clip is not a conventional band video. Its scientist-and-cloning concept instead functions as a dark visual metaphor for reproducing the group.
