Synopsis

The video is a tightly edited anime montage built from scenes in Patlabor 2: The Movie. Against the track's atmospheric club pulse, Tokyo is presented as a city under invisible pressure, with surveillance imagery, military hardware, aircraft, explosions, police operations and uneasy exchanges between key characters. Rather than following the song's lyrics literally, the edit emphasizes the film's tense mixture of technology, urban isolation and looming conflict. The result is a sleek, cinematic counterpoint to the vocal track, with the escalating images giving the music a distinctly ominous edge.

Factoids & Trivia

  • The video uses excerpts from the 1993 anime feature Patlabor 2: The Movie, making it a licensed anime-based music video rather than an original production created specifically for the song.
  • Patlabor 2 was directed by Mamoru Oshii and is known for its serious political atmosphere, detailed depiction of Tokyo and restrained, cinematic approach to mecha storytelling. Those qualities give the video a markedly more contemplative tone than a conventional dance clip.
  • "You're The Reason" followed Wamdue Project's major success with "King of My Castle," whose video famously used footage from Ghost in the Shell. The two clips are often discussed together as an early bridge between European club music and widely seen Japanese animation.
  • The song was credited to Wamdue Project, the alias of Atlanta electronic producer Chris Brann, with vocals by Victoria Frigerio.
  • The single reached No. 55 in Germany and No. 39 on the UK Singles Chart, where it spent two weeks in 2000.
