Synopsis

Britney Spears falls asleep while thinking about a past relationship and dreams of reuniting with her former lover. Her fantasy moves between a futuristic apartment, a moonlit rooftop, and a series of highly stylized performance spaces. Wearing silver, red, and black outfits, Spears sings directly to the absent partner while dancing with backup performers. The romantic dream gradually becomes a showcase for choreography, fashion, and glossy late-1990s pop imagery before she wakes up alone in her room.

• The video was commissioned by Jive Records and filmed on October 24 and 25, 1999.

• Choreography was created by Wade Robson, who helped shape the video's elaborate dance sections.

• The video premiered in November 1999. It received an early television premiere on Germany's VIVA on November 17.

• Spears' black skirt in the rooftop sequence was not originally intended for the video. It belonged to her stylist Claudette Lali, but Spears liked it and chose to wear it.

• The futuristic sets and silver styling helped distinguish the video from the school setting of "...Baby One More Time," presenting Spears in a more polished and fashion-focused pop-star image.
