Synopsis

Set in an empty warehouse, the video opens with a group of teenage boys skateboarding while Billie and her friends watch from a sofa. As the chorus begins, the girls leave their seats to dance and perform. A young man arrives in a truck, drawing Billie's attention. She spends time with him and plays pool, while energetic dance sequences and scenes of the skateboarding group maintain the video's youthful, carefree atmosphere. The clip closes on the pair together, presenting the song as a playful tale of attraction and flirtation.

• Released in 1998, "Girlfriend" was the second single from Billie's debut album, "Honey to the B".

• The song entered the UK Singles Chart at number one on October 11, 1998.

• Following "Because We Want To", it gave Billie two consecutive UK number-one singles. At the time, this made her the youngest and first female solo singer to achieve that feat with her first two singles.

• The video uses the single version of the song rather than the original album recording.
