Synopsis

Weird Al Yankovic turns an ice cream craving into a full-blown rock performance. In a visual parody of Joan Jett and the Blackhearts' "I Love Rock 'n' Roll," Yankovic sings passionately about rocky road while performing with his band in a makeshift ice cream setting. The comedy comes from treating an ordinary dessert like an object of rebellious rock worship, complete with exaggerated poses, energetic playing and a brief appearance by Dr. Demento behind the counter.

• The video was filmed at a defunct restaurant beside an airstrip in a small town roughly 50 miles from Los Angeles.

• Dr. Demento appears briefly as the cashier in the fictional ice cream parlor.

• The apparent ice cream was actually mashed potatoes. Real ice cream would have melted under the studio lights, and Yankovic later recalled accidentally biting into the substitute during a take.

• A planned sequence featuring a 50-piece youth accordion band was filmed but left out of the finished video.

• The song parodies "I Love Rock 'n' Roll," written by Alan Merrill and Jake Hooker and popularized by Joan Jett and the Blackhearts. The single was released on July 5, 1983, after being recorded on March 14, 1982.
