Synopsis

A young man pauses at a movie-theater ticket booth, studying photographs of women displayed behind the glass. As he looks from one image to another, Terence Trent D'Arby appears within the photographs, singing directly to the camera. The still portraits come alive through playful movement and dancing, turning the booth into a dreamlike gallery of romantic possibilities. The video's visual conceit keeps shifting between the observer, the photographed women, and the performer, creating a surreal, theatrical presentation of attraction and fantasy.

Factoids & Trivia

  • "She Kissed Me" was released in 1993 as a single from *Symphony or Damn (Exploring the Tension Inside the Sweetness)*.
  • The video's central idea - a singer performing from inside mounted photographs - gives the clip a deliberately constructed, stage-like quality rather than a conventional narrative.
  • The special effects were associated with Michel Gondry, whose early music-video work was already known for handmade-looking optical tricks and playful transformations.
  • The video received two nominations at the 1993 MTV Video Music Awards: Breakthrough Video and Best Special Effects in a Video.
  • It competed for Best Special Effects alongside videos by Peter Gabriel, Aerosmith, and Billy Idol.
