Synopsis

In a shadowy, theater-like room, Kelli Dayton sings from a dentist chair that slowly spins as she moves through the darkness. Around her, oval windows reveal a series of strange private tableaux: a man posing in black, a woman vacuuming, a child scattering spaghetti, and an overweight man eating in a recliner. The other Sneaker Pimps appear intermittently among these surreal scenes. As the video progresses, the small-room figures become still, leaving Dayton and the band suspended in an eerie, dreamlike world.

Factoids & Trivia

• The video debuted on January 14, 1997, a few months after "6 Underground" first appeared on the band's debut album, *Becoming X*.

• It uses the Nellee Hooper edit rather than the longer album version. That remix later became the best-known version of the song and was included on the US edition of *Becoming X*.

• The song's opening horns and harp-like melody sample John Barry's "Golden Girl," from the 1964 James Bond film *Goldfinger*. The music appears during the scene in which Bond discovers Jill Masterson covered in gold paint.

• The video's surreal room-within-a-room design echoes the song's themes of isolation, private behavior, and life observed from a distance, without presenting a conventional narrative.

• "6 Underground" gained additional exposure after appearing in the 1997 film *The Saint*. The song subsequently became one of Sneaker Pimps' defining crossover tracks.

• The single reached No. 9 on the UK Singles Chart after its 1997 re-release and peaked at No. 45 on the US *Billboard* Hot 100.

• The video was later included on *Sneaker Pimps: The Videos*, a compilation released in 2001.
