Synopsis

Set against the streets and nightlife of New York City, the video follows Guns N' Roses as they move through Times Square, Washington Square Park, subway cars, vacant lots, and strip clubs. Axl Rose, Slash, Duff McKagan, and the other musicians appear in loosely connected vignettes rather than a conventional storyline, mixing candid-looking city footage with performances and decadent late-night imagery. The result is a gritty, unpolished portrait of the band during the Use Your Illusion era, matching the song's dark, theatrical mood.

Factoids & Trivia

  • "The Garden" was released as a promotional video in 1993 to help promote the Use Your Illusion Tour, even though the song was never issued as a standard single or serviced to radio.
  • The video was not heavily shown on MTV because several sequences take place in strip clubs.
  • The song later appeared as the B-side of the "Estranged" single in 1994.
  • The video was included on the band's 1998 home-video compilation "Welcome to the Videos."
  • The recording features Alice Cooper on co-lead vocals and Blind Melon's Shannon Hoon on backing vocals. Neither guest vocalist is presented as a central on-screen participant in the video.
  • The New York locations, including Times Square and Washington Square Park, give the clip a distinctly urban character that separates it from the band's larger-scale performance videos from the same period.
  • The official video was published on Guns N' Roses' YouTube channel in 2018, using the 1993 promotional version.
