Synopsis

Set in the year 3030, the video presents Garbage as a futuristic flight crew defending the peaceful planet of Garbania from invading forces. Shirley Manson appears as Queen Astarte, piloting a sleek fighter through a stylized sci-fi dogfight while the other band members operate their own personalized spacecraft. The action combines cockpit performance shots, aerial combat, and comic-book-inspired imagery. The story ends on a cliffhanger, promising that the intergalactic conflict will be continued.

Factoids & Trivia

• The video was filmed in London during a four-day shoot in 1998.

• Each band member received an individually designed fighter plane decorated with manga and science-fiction-inspired artwork.

• Four physical study models of the aircraft were built before filming to help plan the shots and editing.

• The cockpit scenes were filmed inside a cabin mounted on a gimbal, allowing the set to tilt and move like a real aircraft in combat.

• The spacecraft designs were created by graphic artists who had also worked on visual effects for "Lost in Space" and "Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace."

• The production's effects work earned the video the Best Special Effects award at the 1999 MTV Video Music Awards.

• The video also won a Visionary Video award at the 1999 VH1 Fashion Awards and a silver Design and Art Direction award.

• A remastered full-length version appeared on Garbage's 2007 greatest-hits DVD, "Absolute Garbage." A shorter original edit was also distributed digitally.
