Synopsis

Set in a fictional authoritarian France, the video follows Duran Duran as members of an underground resistance group called La Luna. With help from a mysterious French woman, the rebels move through the village, evade armed forces, communicate through clandestine signals, and prepare an uprising. The band members alternate between acting in the story and performing the song, while fireworks and a final gathering turn the resistance into a celebratory release. The plot gives the otherwise impressionistic song a distinctly cinematic, science-fiction adventure atmosphere.

Factoids & Trivia

• The video was filmed in the medieval French village of Noyers on December 7, 1983.

• Patricia Barzyk, who plays the central female character, was crowned Miss France in 1980.

• The resistance organization is called La Luna, one of the few clear links between the video's story and the song's moon imagery.

• Several edits were produced. The longest movie version runs about 17 minutes and includes an extended opening with dialogue before the song begins.

• MTV initially received a shorter version with spoken French dialogue, then requested an even more concise edit without the prologue.

• A different cut was created for the 1984 video collection "Dancing on the Valentine." It adds blue-lit performance footage with the band positioned against a full-moon backdrop.

• The various versions were later hidden as bonus material on the 2004 DVD compilation "Greatest."

• The video became notorious within the band. Andy Taylor and Nick Rhodes have both identified it as one of Duran Duran's least favorite productions, with Taylor particularly criticizing the closing group dance.
