Mylene Farmer - Si j'avais au moins... (If I Had At Least...)

Music Video | France | 2009

Wiki

Synopsis

Mylene Farmer's mysterious extraterrestrial figure enters a deserted laboratory filled with animals used as test subjects. Moved by their suffering, she approaches the cages and heals the creatures with luminous blue energy. She frees them from captivity, carries a wounded cat outside, and releases a final surge of energy into the surrounding landscape. As the animals disappear into the night, Farmer's character transforms into a sphere of light and leaves Earth, completing the story begun in "Degeneration."

Factoids & Trivia

  • The video was filmed in 2008 at the abandoned Bohnice psychiatric hospital in Prague, Czech Republic. Its decaying corridors and institutional rooms provide the stark setting for the laboratory scenes.
  • "Si j'avais au moins..." was conceived as a continuation of "Degeneration." Together with an introductory sequence, the two videos form the short film "The Farmer Project."
  • The video first appeared online on January 7, 2009. It was subsequently broadcast on French television by M6 on January 17, 2009, as part of the television premiere of "The Farmer Project."
  • A behind-the-scenes program documenting the production was broadcast after the film's television premiere. The production also received a dedicated making-of feature on later home-video releases.
  • The animal cast includes birds, cats, rodents, reptiles, primates, and a deer, reinforcing the video's theme of compassion toward living creatures subjected to human experimentation.

Lyrics

Qui n'a connu
Douleur immense
N'aura qu'un aperçu
Du temps
L'aiguille lente
Qu'il neige ou vente
L'omniprésente
Souligne ton absence
Partout

Qui n'a connu
L'instable règne
Qui n'a perdu
Ne sait la peine
...
