Synopsis
Yung Joc runs a colorful drive-through coffee shop where the customers are looking for something stronger than breakfast. Joc appears as himself and as several eccentric employees, including an overweight worker, a bald older man, and a little person handling the window. Gorilla Zoe joins the hustle, while a parade of Atlanta rap personalities stops by. The playful setting disguises the song's drug-dealing metaphor, turning the shop into a cartoonish neighborhood trap with a deliberately family-friendly presentation.
Factoids & Trivia
- The video premiered on BET's "Access Granted" on June 20, 2007, shortly before the release of Joc's album "Hustlenomics."
- Yung Joc plays four roles: himself and three employees of the coffee shop - an overweight worker, a little person, and a bald older man.
- The video uses the clean edit of the song. Its closing joke has Joc warning children not to do drugs, while the explicit album version continues with a darker punchline.
- Gorilla Zoe's section in the video is different from the verse heard on the single version.
- Jody Breeze, Trae, Lloyd, Rick Ross, DJ Drama, Lil Duval, and 8Ball & MJG appear in cameo roles.
- Joc later described "Coffee Shop" as a conceptual approach to trap music, using the coffee-shop setting as a coded reference to selling drugs rather than stating the subject directly.
- The presence of children and the cartoon-like characters helped the song present its adult subject matter in a deliberately sanitized, pop-oriented package.
- The track was produced by Don Vito, with additional production from Cheese, and appeared on "Hustlenomics," released in 2007.
