Synopsis

In a stark, studio-like setting, These New Puritans perform while powerful industrial fans blast air across their exposed bodies. Clothing, hair, and skin are pushed and distorted by the force, turning the performance into a study of pressure, vulnerability, and physical endurance. The band's rigid presence contrasts with the chaotic wind, while the stark black-and-white imagery and clipped editing reinforce the track's abrasive, mechanical mood.

Factoids & Trivia

  • The video was released online on December 7, 2007, ahead of the song's January 21, 2008 single release.
  • "Elvis" had already appeared on These New Puritans' limited 2006 EP, "Now Pluvial." The later version was recorded in 2007 for the band's debut album, "Beat Pyramid."
  • The video's central image came from a discarded concept involving a man emerging from a sand pyramid while wind stripped material from his body. The production shifted to the fan-driven performance after the practical requirements proved unworkable.
  • The song was recorded with producer Gareth Jones at Miloco's The Toyshop and The Square studios.
  • The title's Elvis reference is deliberately ambiguous. The song itself distances its subject from Elvis Presley, making the video's stripped-down, confrontational presentation feel more like an abstract physical interpretation than a portrait of the singer.
