Synopsis

Set inside an ornate theater, the video presents "Shut Up" as a playful opera about romantic conflict. Fergie portrays a performer caught between will.i.am and Taboo, who compete for her attention while apl.de.ap conducts the production. The staged rivalry grows increasingly theatrical, with exaggerated gestures, choreography, costumes, and comic interruptions turning relationship friction into a full-scale battle of the sexes. The band performs both as characters in the story and as the featured act onstage.

Factoids & Trivia

  • The video uses an opera setting and exaggerated stage presentation to match the song's theatrical argument between lovers.
  • will.i.am and Taboo appear as Fergie's competing suitors, while apl.de.ap plays the conductor, giving each member a distinct role within the production.
  • Kimberly Wyatt and Carmit Bachar appear in the video. Both were associated with the Pussycat Dolls before that group's major commercial breakthrough.
  • Additional cameo appearances include Travis Barker of Blink-182, Shifty Shellshock of Crazy Town, and singer Afida Turner.
  • Posters modeled after the "Andre the Giant Has a Posse" street-art design can be seen near the stage. Posters connected with the Black Eyed Peas' earlier song "Where Is the Love?" also appear.
  • "Shut Up" was released in 2003 as part of the album "Elephunk." It became one of the group's major early crossover successes and helped establish the lineup featuring Fergie.
