Synopsis

INXS perform "New Sensation" with exuberant, highly stylized energy against the grand architecture of Prague's Municipal House. Michael Hutchence leads from the rooftop while the band members appear in sharply lit interior spaces, surrounded by geometric patterns, colored lights, and dramatic shadows. The performance footage emphasizes movement, attitude, and the song's celebratory charge rather than a conventional narrative. Fast edits, striking angles, and the Art Nouveau setting turn the clip into a sleek visual statement for the band's breakthrough era.

Factoids & Trivia

  • The video was filmed on the roof and inside Prague's Municipal House, an Art Nouveau landmark. The building also appears in INXS' "Guns in the Sky" video.
  • "New Sensation" was one of several videos connected with the band's 1987 album *Kick* that were filmed in Prague. "Never Tear Us Apart" was also shot during the same Prague trip, using locations across the city.
  • The Prague shoot took place while the city was still behind the Iron Curtain. Production required cooperation with a local state-sanctioned company, while specialist equipment, including a Steadicam and a large crane, had to be brought in from Munich.
  • The video helped define the visual identity of INXS during the international success of *Kick*, presenting the group as a polished, charismatic rock band with a strong fashion and performance focus.
  • The song was composed by Andrew Farriss, with lyrics by Michael Hutchence. Farriss had developed the central guitar idea several years before it was recorded for *Kick*.
  • The opening lyric, "Live, baby, live," later supplied the title for INXS' 1991 live album and concert film, *Live Baby Live*.
