Synopsis

A real estate agent returns home to discover that his family no longer recognizes him. A stranger has taken his place as husband and father, while the agent's home, car, office, and personal photographs gradually become part of the impostor's life. Attempts to explain the situation to the police fail, and even his workplace appears to have been rewritten around the other man. Keane's performance footage is intercut with the increasingly surreal story, which ends with the displaced protagonist left without any clear proof of who he once was.

Factoids & Trivia

  • The video was released online on August 4, 2006, ahead of the single's August 21 release.
  • Giovanni Ribisi plays the displaced real estate agent. His performance was singled out by the video's production team as a major reason the story works beyond the usual music-video format.
  • Two versions were made: one intercut with footage of Keane performing and another focused entirely on the narrative.
  • The video was filmed in Los Angeles and Barcelona.
  • The story's central idea reflects the song's themes of uncertainty, lost identity, and the inability to know what lies ahead.
  • The narrative was later repurposed for the US promotional video for "Nothing in My Way." That version removed the band footage and added subtitles.
