Synopsis

Shot in stark black and white, the video presents Mary J. Blige and U2 in an old theater filled with haze and dramatic stage lighting. U2 begin the performance alone while Blige prepares backstage and makes her way into the venue. She eventually joins the band onstage, taking the lead with an intense, gospel-inflected delivery while Bono adds his voice. The camera moves between close performance shots and atmospheric views of the theater, ending on a warm exchange between Blige and Bono.

Factoids & Trivia

• The video was filmed on February 17, 2006, at the Teatro Ferrocarrilero Gudelio Morales in Mexico City.

• The entire clip uses black-and-white photography, with dense stage smoke giving the theater a shadowy, almost cinematic appearance.

• The collaboration grew out of Blige's performance of "One" with U2 during a 2005 Hurricane Katrina benefit event. The album version retained the basic performance while adding further instrumentation, strings, and vocals.

• The song became one of the most successful singles from Blige's *The Breakthrough*, reaching No. 2 in both the United Kingdom and Ireland.
