Synopsis

In a stark, shadow-filled setting, Apocalyptica perform "Path" as dark doubles emerge around them. The musicians appear to confront distorted versions of themselves, turning the performance into a symbolic struggle against inner fears and destructive forces. The shadow figures repeatedly mirror and challenge the band, creating an atmosphere of unease and psychological conflict. As the instrumental builds toward its climax, the musicians overcome their counterparts, leaving the video with a simple visual resolution: the path forward comes through defeating the darkness within.

Factoids & Trivia

• "Path" was released in 2000 on Apocalyptica's album "Cult." The original recording is an instrumental composed by Eicca Toppinen.

• The song was later retitled "Path Vol. 1" when "Path Vol. 2" was issued with vocals by Sandra Nasic of Guano Apes.

• "Path Vol. 2" received a separate music video, making the two versions visually distinct as well as musically different.

• The instrumental became familiar to a new audience after it was used in a 2019 "Death Stranding" trailer. A related "Death Stranding (Songs from the Video Game)" release followed in 2020.

• The video reflects Apocalyptica's early visual identity: classically trained cellists presented with the intensity, darkness, and theatrical framing normally associated with heavy metal.
