Synopsis

Set in an apartment, the video presents the Sugababes performing "Soul Sound" while seated on couches and chairs. As the music takes hold, their inner spirits appear to break free, transforming the room into a more dreamlike space. The effect spreads beyond the apartment, with people in the surrounding neighborhood also appearing to be lifted and energized by the song. The visual concept turns the track's theme into a simple fantasy about music awakening something hidden inside ordinary people.

Factoids & Trivia

  • "Soul Sound" was released on July 16, 2001, as the fourth and final single from the Sugababes' debut album, "One Touch."
  • The video was filmed in London and uses the contrast between a domestic apartment setting and supernatural-looking soul imagery to visualize the song's central idea.
  • In a 2020 interview, Keisha Buchanan recalled that the video shoot marked an early point when record executives began asking the group to appear more smiley and approachable. Siobhan Donaghy said she did not like the video, partly because of those pressures.
  • The single reached number 30 on the UK Singles Chart, making it the group's lowest-charting single at that point.
  • "Soul Sound" was the last Sugababes single released through London Records and the final one to feature Siobhan Donaghy before her departure from the original lineup.
  • The song was written by Charlotte Gordon Cumming after experiences in Kenya, which inspired its reflective and spiritually minded theme.
