Wiki

Synopsis

An animated space opera follows a lesbian starship captain as she searches the cosmos for her abducted lover. Moving through distant planets, star fields, and surreal sci-fi landscapes, the captain confronts isolation and loss while remaining emotionally tethered to the woman she loves. The video's psychedelic imagery, futuristic characters, and comic-book action turn the song's themes of longing, alienation, and weightlessness into a colorful intergalactic adventure.

Factoids & Trivia

  • "Float (My Electric Stargirl)" was the first music video released by Atomic Swindlers.
  • The animated video premiered at Rochester's ImageOut film festival in 2004.
  • Its visual style has been described as a blend of "Barbarella" and "Samurai Jack," combining campy space fantasy with sharp, graphic animation.
  • The video later appeared at Hypefest, New York's Indie Music Video Festival, Vancouver's International Digital Festival, and Brooklyn's Animation Block Valentine Film Festival.
  • The song was the first single from the band's 2004 debut album, "Coming Out Electric."
  • "Coming Out Electric" was originally planned under the title "Intergalactic Lesbian Love Songs," a phrase that also became the name of another song on the album.

  • The track's production included a complex drum loop assembled from one-shot samples, ACID loops, original recordings, and tuned 808 sounds.
