Synopsis

Set on May 13, 1985, the video follows the Backstreet Boys as devoted fans attending a concert by the fictional heavy metal band Sphynkter. Outside the venue, they act like exaggerated hair-metal devotees, complete with homemade signs, big hair, denim, and intense fandom. Once the concert begins, the group appears again as Sphynkter, performing the song in full glam-metal style. The video alternates between fan interviews, backstage-style moments, and deliberately over-the-top concert footage, creating a comic portrait of 1980s rock culture and celebrity worship.

Factoids & Trivia

• The concept is a parody of the 1986 short documentary "Heavy Metal Parking Lot," which documented heavy metal fans gathering before a Judas Priest concert.

• The Backstreet Boys play two roles: enthusiastic Sphynkter fans and the members of Sphynkter themselves.

• Sphynkter is an entirely fictional band created for the video. The name and presentation imitate the deliberately provocative branding associated with 1980s glam-metal acts.

• Kevin Richardson wrote the video's treatment during a flight home from Japan. His idea gave the project its period setting and mock-documentary structure.

• The video accompanied "Just Want You to Know," the second single from the 2005 album "Never Gone." The single reached No. 8 in the United Kingdom and No. 70 on the Billboard Hot 100.

• The exaggerated rock-band performance became one of the group's most unusual and comedy-driven video concepts, contrasting sharply with the polished romantic and dramatic treatments associated with many of their earlier singles.
