Synopsis

Kaizers Orchestra perform "Maestro" in a stark, industrial setting shaped by the band's familiar postwar imagery. Janove Ottesen delivers the song with theatrical swagger while the musicians surround themselves with battered equipment, oil drums and heavy percussion. Gasmasks, harsh lighting and deliberately eccentric movement give the performance an ominous, cabaret-like atmosphere. Rather than following a conventional narrative, the video builds a visual portrait of the chaotic world suggested by the song and the band's fictional mental-institution universe.

Factoids & Trivia

  • The video was recorded in Berlin in 2005, around the release of the album and single.
  • "Maestro" is the title track of Kaizers Orchestra's third studio album, released in August 2005.
  • The song belongs to the album's broader story world, centered on Dieter Meyers Institution, a postwar mental hospital marked by corruption, violence and grotesque humor.
  • The Norwegian single was issued as an enhanced CD containing the music video alongside additional tracks.
  • The video was also included on the limited edition of the album and later appeared among the music-video extras on the 2006 DVD *Viva la Vega*.
  • Its visual style reinforces the band's established stage identity: gasmasks, theatrical costumes, oil drums and improvised metal percussion are treated as central performance props rather than decoration.
  • "Maestro" later became one of the band's recognizable live numbers, with its pounding rhythm and repeated refrain making it especially suited to audience participation.
