Synopsis

At dusk, Gary Lightbody pushes an old motorcycle across an open field before leaving it behind and walking into a dark woodland. He eventually reaches a stream, where he lights a red distress flare and sings into the night. Other members of Snow Patrol appear on a distant bridge and hillside, carrying and tossing flares as the band gathers around the abandoned motorcycle. The journey ends with the bike catching fire, rolling downhill, and sinking into the water.

Factoids & Trivia

• The video was filmed in September 2003 in a remote area of Kent and premiered in October 2003, several months before "Run" was released as a single in the United Kingdom on February 26, 2004.

• The production used real red distress flares. Their unusual glow attracted attention from local residents, who contacted the police after seeing what appeared to be emergency signals in the area at night.

• The motorcycle serves as the video's central practical prop, first being pushed through the field and later ridden before it is set alight and sent into the stream.

• "Run" originally appeared on the six-minute version of Final Straw. After BBC Radio 1 airplay helped build interest, the band prepared a shorter radio edit for the single release.

• The single reached No. 5 on the UK Singles Chart, marking a major breakthrough for Snow Patrol after the band had spent years playing small venues.

• A separate, unreleased video for the song was also made and later appeared online.
