Synopsis

In a dreamlike setting filled with thick white mist, Fred Durst and Halle Berry appear isolated from one another before gradually moving together. As Limp Bizkit perform the song through surreal, pale-blue imagery, the pair share an extended kiss. The moment ends with the two characters exchanging identities, turning the video's romantic encounter into a strange visual transformation. Green-screen performances and digital compositing give the short narrative an ethereal, unreal atmosphere.

Factoids & Trivia

  • Halle Berry appears in the video alongside Fred Durst. Her presence connects the clip to the film "Gothika," whose soundtrack featured "Behind Blue Eyes."
  • The central kiss lasts approximately 45 seconds and concludes with Berry and Durst having exchanged identities.
  • Much of the misty environment was created digitally. Berry and Durst were filmed against green screen while lip-syncing, then composited into the artificial haze.
  • The video was produced in high definition, at a time when standard-definition delivery was still common for music television. The sharper format made color correction and visual-effects work more demanding.
  • Postproduction artists used separate color-correction windows for Berry and Durst so both performers could retain natural skin tones within the video's silvery, pale-blue look.
  • Limp Bizkit's version is a cover of The Who's 1971 song. The arrangement adds a Speak & Spell passage and a revised structure, giving the performance a more electronic and theatrical bridge.

Lyrics

No one knows what it's like
To be the bad man
To be the sad man
Behind blue eyes
And no one knows
What it's like to be hated
To be fated to telling only lies

[Chorus:]
But my dreams they aren't as empty
As my conscience seems to be
I have hours, only lonely
My love is vengeance
