Synopsis

In a society ruled by animals, Incubus appear as captive performers on a bizarre television program. The band members are displayed as human curiosities and instructed to entertain their animal hosts with "stupid human trix." The studio audience watches passively as the performers struggle within an elaborate, oppressive spectacle. The video's unsettling imagery reverses the usual power relationship between humans and animals, creating a dystopian satire about entertainment, surveillance, obedience, and the possibility that television has begun watching its viewers.

Factoids & Trivia

• The video was released in 2004 as the second single from *A Crow Left of the Murder...* and uses imagery inspired by George Orwell's *Animal Farm*.

• The song itself contains a separate Orwellian connection through its reference to "nineteen eighty-four." Brandon Boyd said the song began with thoughts about television, surveillance, and a possible "Big Brother" nightmare after watching a talk show on an airplane.

• The talk-show host's costume incorporated animated retro LED elements made from a vintage suit.

• MTV reportedly restricted the video to late-night rotation because its imagery could be interpreted as political commentary. The band welcomed the restriction, while drummer Jose Pasillas said that prompting viewers to think was a positive result.

• The production included special makeup effects by Patrick Magee, with Marcos Lutyens credited as art director.
