Synopsis

Drowning Pool perform amid torrential rain at an abandoned motel while a series of grotesque vignettes unfolds around them. The video presents a gallery of excess and self-destruction: a dominatrix handles pit bulls, a woman remains in a tanning bed until her skin turns leathery, and an obese man consumes food in front of a television before his body ruptures. Inspired by the grim atmosphere of the film "Seven," the imagery turns the song's theme of universal human wrongdoing into provocative horror.

Factoids & Trivia

• The video was filmed in October 2001 at and around the abandoned Pink Lady motel in Los Angeles.

• Its visual concept was inspired by David Fincher's 1995 crime thriller "Seven," particularly its fascination with extreme behavior and moral decay.

• The band played in mud and artificial rain for approximately four hours. Dave Williams recalled that the shoot was cold, ran from roughly 6 p.m. until 8 a.m., and left the band members sick afterward.

• The production was physically demanding enough that the group reportedly went without sleep for about two days while filming.

• "Sinner" was released as the third and final single from Drowning Pool's debut album. It became the last single featuring Dave Williams, who died on August 14, 2002, one day after the single's release.

• The song was used as the theme for the 2001 World Wrestling Federation event Vengeance and later appeared as the theme song for the 2001 Jet Li film "The One."
