Synopsis

Natasha Bedingfield struggles with writer's block while trying to compose a love song at a Spanish villa. As she moves through the house, pool, beach, and library, her surroundings spring to life, with dancing chairs, radios, and books joining her increasingly playful search for inspiration. Multiple versions of Bedingfield appear throughout the surreal scenes, each in a different outfit and hairstyle. On the villa's rooftop, she finally writes a message that brings her boyfriend to the house, where she simply tells him she loves him.

Factoids & Trivia

  • The international video premiered in July 2004 and was filmed at a Spanish villa in Malaga. Bedingfield appears barefoot throughout the entire video, despite constantly changing clothes and hairstyles.
  • The video's surreal objects directly echo the song's writing theme. Books, radios, chairs, notebooks, and discarded pages turn the frustration of songwriting into a playful fantasy world.
  • Two substantially different music videos were produced for the song. The North American version was filmed in Rio de Janeiro in March 2005 and centers on dancing boomboxes, while an alternate edit adds drawn-style animation and a performance scene with flowing white drapery.
  • The original North American version was reportedly discarded by the record label, yet it later won four MVPA Awards.
  • The North American edit debuted on MTV's "Total Request Live" at number 10 on July 28, 2005, and remained on the program for six days. VH1 later placed it at number 22 on its "Top 40 Videos of 2005" countdown.
  • The song itself grew out of Bedingfield's real-life difficulty finding inspiration for a love song. The video's opening image of her stuck at a table therefore mirrors the track's songwriting premise rather than introducing an unrelated storyline.

Lyrics

These words are my own

Threw some chords together
The combination D-E-F
It's who I am, it's what I do
And I was gonna lay it down for you
Try to focus my attention
But I feel so A-D-D
I need some help, some inspiration
(But it's not coming easily)
Whoah oh!

Trying to find the magic
