Synopsis

Rammstein appear as exhausted dwarfs laboring in a dark mine, extracting gold for a towering and demanding Snow White. Their work revolves around her every whim, while she treats the precious metal as an addictive substance rather than a treasure. The band's pounding performance is intercut with scenes of punishment, submission, and grotesque devotion. After Snow White takes too much of the gold, she collapses and is placed in a glass coffin, leaving the dwarfs to mourn the destructive figure who controlled their lives.

Factoids & Trivia

• The video was filmed at Babelsberg Film Studio in Potsdam from January 13 to 15, 2001, and premiered in Germany on January 29, 2001.

• The concept grew from Oliver Riedel's experiment of combining Rammstein's song with footage from a Snow White film. The band responded positively to the unlikely contrast between the fairy tale imagery and the song's heavy, imposing sound.

• Snow White is played by Yulia Stepanova, a Russian actress. Her exaggerated height compared with the band members strengthens the video's reversal of the traditional fairy tale: the dwarfs become laborers under Snow White's control.

• Rammstein reportedly considered many other concepts before settling on Snow White. The chosen idea allowed the group to avoid a more conventional aggressive or combat-based video while keeping the song's threatening atmosphere.

• The US edit opens with the band counting from one to ten before the main riff begins. The international version starts more abruptly with the song itself.

• The video does not use the song's complete album arrangement. The third verse is omitted, and some editions include a jackhammer sound at the end.

• The song itself was initially conceived as entrance music for boxer Vitali Klitschko, with "Klitschko" serving as its working title. That original sporting context makes the video's transformation into a twisted fairy tale even more unexpected.

• The video was later included on Rammstein's 2003 video collection *Lichtspielhaus*.
