Synopsis

A pair of boots sets out across a miniature wilderness, crossing forests and climbing toward the summit of Mount Olympus. Along the way, the journey shifts between handcrafted stop-motion landscapes and live-action performance footage of Zeus. The travelers appear to be searching for the mythical Greek god, but the destination delivers a playful twist: the divine figure they seek is revealed to be the band itself, waiting at the mountaintop to perform.

Factoids & Trivia

  • The video combines live-action band performance with stop-motion animation and carefully built miniature sets.
  • The stop-motion footage was captured with a Canon 5D Mark II camera using Dragon Stop Motion software.
  • The production used a deliberately handmade visual style, with the miniature environments doing much of the storytelling rather than computer-generated imagery.
  • Adam Makarenko built the sets and handled the cinematography, animation direction, foley, and much of the post-production work. Alan Poon contributed remotely for much of the animation process.
  • Makarenko and Poon coordinated between Toronto and New York through Skype, including screen-sharing sessions that allowed them to review animation moves and exchange ideas during production.
  • The animation team included Payton Curtis, Mike Hollenbeck, and Aaron Fenwick. Jared Lorenz produced the video, while Steve Bosco handled compositing.
  • The song first appeared on Zeus' 2009 EP "Sounds Like Zeus" and was also included on the band's 2010 full-length album "Say Us."
  • Stop-motion and animation publications including Motionographer and Dragonframe highlighted the video for its miniature craftsmanship and restrained, whimsical approach.
