Heroes for Sale - Jim Morrison

Music Video

Wiki

Synopsis

Heroes for Sale turn "I Wish You Knew Jim Morrison" into a frantic, irreverent performance piece rather than a conventional narrative. The band plays in 13 different locations while the video cuts between them and a rapidly changing cast of participants, including babies, ballerinas, gym bunnies and older people. Partial nudity, comic visual interruptions and the destruction of musical instruments add to the deliberately unruly mood. The result is a chaotic celebration of garage-rock energy and the song's exaggerated Morrison worship.

Factoids & Trivia

  • The video was released in 2013, while the song itself had already been released on October 9, 2012.
  • The shoot used 13 different locations, giving the performance a deliberately fragmented, constantly moving structure.
  • The production included babies, ballerinas, gym bunnies and older people, as well as partial nudity and scenes involving the destruction of instruments.
  • Heroes for Sale were still a two-piece during the filming. Bassist Tom Dennison met the band through the shoot and subsequently became its third member.
  • "I Wish You Knew Jim Morrison" was recorded at Roundhead Studios in Auckland on September 10, 2012. Jason Huss recorded, mixed and mastered the track.
  • The band's own description of its sound places the song within a rough blend of garage rock, surf rock, fuzz and "cock rock," an appropriately unruly context for the video's visual approach.
