Synopsis
Set in a shadowy, mysterious room, the video presents The Do and their touring musicians as figures caught between a live performance and a surreal transformation. Olivia Merilahti and Dan Levy appear alongside an older couple whose unnerving, highly individual movements give the piece its strange human focus. As brass instruments, smoke, and shifting visual effects intensify, the performers seem to mutate into otherworldly humanoids. The result is an eerie, theatrical counterpart to the song's upbeat retro-pop surface.
Factoids & Trivia
- "Too Insistent" was released as part of the campaign for The Do's second album, "Both Ways Open Jaws," which came out in March 2011.
- The concept deliberately set an eerie, mysterious, and unusual visual world against what the band described as a simple pop song.
- The older couple became the video's most distinctive visual element. Their movements were not choreographed in the conventional sense; the production team wanted two strong faces moving in peculiar, spontaneous ways.
- The clip features the full touring band rather than presenting only Olivia Merilahti and Dan Levy.
- The production credits identify Rokkit as the production company and list Martin de Chabaneix as director of photography. Johanna Levy is credited with choreography, while Geraldine Stivet handled set design.
- The video was included in Stereogum's "The 10 Best Videos of the Week" roundup in 2011.
