Synopsis

A lonely older man devotes himself to a house full of dogs, surrounding them with trophies, portraits, statues and other signs of canine worship. Their behavior takes a sinister turn when their eyes glow while they consume what appears to be the remains of other dogs. The man's strange routine changes when a woman arrives with an equally unusual rabbit. After the two share an intimate encounter, he sells his dogs to unsuspecting families, only for the animals' eerie secret to resurface in a photograph.

Factoids & Trivia

• "Houseboat Babies" was the second single from Reptar's debut album, "Body Faucet," which was released in 2012.

• The video's animal-centered horror-comedy concept reportedly began with a photograph of a dog whose eyes reflected the camera flash as a threatening red glow.

• The production notes identify the human leads as Neil Polister and Vanessa Nachtmann, with visual effects used to create the animals' unnatural glowing eyes.

• Polister's dog tattoo was real. He also had paw-print tattoos on his feet, but those details were not used in the finished video.

• The dogs were said to have performed reliably during filming, with much of their material completed in one or two takes.

• The song was also used as the theme music for "Black Cab Sessions US" on Channel 4.
