Synopsis

Zee Avi performs inside a stark, gray room modeled after the emotional confinement suggested by the song's title. She begins statue-like on a plinth, then appears in multiple forms as the performance develops. The versions of Avi move, dance, drum, and sing with contrasting moods, shifting between playful energy, childlike spontaneity, and heavier emotion. Motion-control photography turns the room into a surreal mental space, presenting the singer as if different sides of her personality are confronting one another within the same concrete enclosure.

Factoids & Trivia

• The visual concept was built around the song's themes of claustrophobia and emotional conflict. The creative team described the room as a representation of the opposing forces inside Avi's mind.

• The concrete surfaces were created with wallpaper supplied by Concrete Wall, a Norwegian design company known for realistic concrete-effect wall coverings.

• Avi's multiplying on-screen presence was achieved with motion-control filming, allowing the camera to repeat movements precisely while combining several performances in the same frame.

• Choreography was created by Ryan Heffington, whose work helped give the different versions of Avi distinct physical personalities.

• "Concrete Wall" was released as part of the Ghostbird era in 2012. The song was also featured in season five of the television series Gossip Girl.

• A remix EP, Concrete Wall (Remixes), was released in 2012. One later reworking was produced by RAC.
