Synopsis
In a secluded woodland, a lone dancer moves through the trees in a performance that gradually feels less like choreography and more like a private ritual. Her flowing movements echo the track's skittering beats and Andreya Triana's hushed vocal, while the natural surroundings provide a calm, dreamlike counterpoint to the music's subdued tension. Rather than following a conventional narrative, the video builds its mood through repetition, graceful physicality and an increasingly idyllic connection between the dancer and the landscape.
Factoids & Trivia
- The video centers on choreographer and dancer Portia Van De Braam, whose performance carries the entire piece.
- The production was filmed in the United Kingdom. Bonobo later noted that the video was shot in a different area from the location used for the cover of *Black Sands*, although both were in the UK.
- Bonobo said he was not heavily involved in making the video. He did, however, recall that the performer was a Russian ballerina, which he described as a particularly interesting detail.
- The video was produced by NTSH London, with Seany Stuart and Steve Glashier among the credited producers. Thomas English handled cinematography, Emily Bosence worked on styling, and Mike Prior edited the piece.
- "Eyesdown" originated as a beat Bonobo nearly discarded. A friend heard the instrumental in his studio and encouraged him to develop it further. The final recording appeared on *Black Sands* in 2010 and features Andreya Triana.
- The original woodland video is separate from the later animated video for the Machinedrum remix. That 2012 interpretation places a six-eyed humanoid in a colorful steampunk dystopia and was nominated for Best Dance Video at the UK Music Video Awards.
