Synopsis
A solitary low-poly human figure moves through a vivid, abstract digital landscape shaped by geometric forms, shifting colors, and rhythmic motion. The character's journey feels more like an impressionistic passage than a literal narrative, with the sparse world echoing the track's subdued atmosphere and sense of distance. As the figure advances through the changing environment, the animation emphasizes isolation, repetition, and gradual transformation. The contrast between the colorful setting and the melancholy electronic soundtrack gives the video a dreamlike, quietly unsettling mood.
Factoids & Trivia
- The video was created as an open-task project at the Koeln International School of Design, with work taking place from December 2012 through February 2013.
- The central character was created by scanning a human body with a Microsoft Xbox 360 Kinect and ReconstructMe. The resulting model was rigged and animated using motion-capture data.
- The simple but colorful low-poly environment was deliberately designed to reflect the melancholic mood of Pariah's track.
- Rendering the clip took more than a week on an eight-machine render farm assembled at the university.
- The video was published in February 2013, several months after "Signal Loss" appeared on Pariah's 2012 Rift EP, released by R&S Records.
- The project received a Vimeo Staff Pick, helping the student animation reach an audience beyond the music video and design communities.
