Synopsis

Lovefoxxx starts out trapped in a dull suburban routine, where her unconventional appearance draws hostility from passersby. After transforming her look with pink hair and black lipstick, she heads into New York City, carrying herself with growing confidence and swagger. The city becomes a playground for self-expression as she changes outfits, dances through the streets and embraces her outsider identity. SSION's Cody Critcheloe appears as a flamboyant guide or fairy godmother figure, helping turn the singer's fantasy of urban liberation into reality.

Factoids & Trivia

• "City Grrrl" was released as the second single from CSS' 2011 album "La Liberacion."

• The song grew out of Lovefoxxx's memories of her teenage years in the suburbs. She recalled making unusual clothes, wearing fake colored hair and applying goth makeup before going out, only to be verbally abused by people in passing cars.

• Lovefoxxx described the track as one of her more autobiographical songs. Its outsider perspective centers on the desire to leave a restrictive hometown and find acceptance among like-minded people in a larger city.

• Cody Critcheloe, performing as SSION, contributes vocals to the song and appears in the video as a stylized, almost supernatural companion to Lovefoxxx.
