Wiki

Synopsis

Set in a brightly exaggerated hospital, the video follows Sean Foreman as a patient suffering from a mysterious condition while Nathaniel Motte tries to figure out what is wrong. The diagnosis becomes a surreal internal battle: a cigarette character attacks a personified human heart, while doctors and nurses turn the hospital into a dance floor. Motte eventually operates on Foreman, extracting bizarre objects from his body, including a banana and a cigarette. The absurd medical comedy turns the song's title into a literal visual concept.

Factoids & Trivia

  • "Electroshock" was released as the second single from 3OH!3's self-titled debut album, which came out on July 2, 2007.
  • The video uses a deliberately low-budget, homemade visual language that matches the duo's early DIY identity. The debut album itself was recorded in a basement, giving the hospital production an appropriately scrappy contrast to polished major-label pop videos.
  • The cigarette-versus-heart sequence functions as a visual metaphor for the patient's illness. The later removal of a cigarette during the operation makes the connection between smoking and the heart trouble explicit.
  • The operation scenes borrow the playful logic of the board game Operation, replacing the game's comical body parts with deliberately random objects.
  • The video was circulated online under the stylized title "ELECTROSHOCK!" and became one of the more eccentric early clips associated with 3OH!3's pre-"Don't Trust Me" era.
