Synopsis

A teenage figure skater practices alone under the spotlight of a deserted rink. During her routine, the ice gives way and drops her into a dark lake. She emerges in an unfamiliar world, wanders through a carnival, crosses a forest in her skates, and eventually reaches a suburban bedroom. The journey grows increasingly disorienting, turning a polished athletic performance into a nightmarish passage through embarrassment, alienation, and adolescent anxiety. Her final breakdown mirrors the song's intensifying emotional release.

Factoids & Trivia

• "Yet Again" premiered on September 27, 2012, as a track from Grizzly Bear's album "Shields."

• The video was produced in partnership with The Creators Project.

• Ed Droste personally contacted Emily Kai Bock after seeing the video for Grimes' "Oblivion." Her first concept received an unusually open-ended response from the band: make it crazier.

• Filming took place in Toronto over two days in August 2012.

• The figure skater represents adolescence and the difficulty of learning how to perform an expected social role. The skates become both part of the costume and a physical burden.

• The bedroom at the end was built inside Bock's mother's house and dressed as a teenage girl's room. The medals on the wall belonged to the actress, Rebecca White.

• The video originally called for the skater to move through a concert crowd. Scheduling made that impossible, so a carnival was used instead, creating a more isolated and unsettling atmosphere.

• The production used a crew of about ten people. The carnival sequence was filmed with an especially small unit, allowing the filmmakers to react to unexpected circumstances, including the carnival's unplanned closing.
