Synopsis

Porcelaintoy's "Monsters" presents the band inside a stylized vintage horror picture inspired by the atmosphere and melodrama of early sound-era Gothic cinema. Elizabeth de la Rey appears as Madge/Madeline, a woman drawn into a sinister world of supernatural menace, while the band performs as part of the film's eerie setting. The monochrome visual language, period costumes, haunted interiors, and theatrical performances give the video the feel of a rediscovered horror movie rather than a conventional music promo.

Factoids & Trivia

• "Monsters" was Porcelaintoy's first official music video and the first single from the 2011 album "Contrite Elegant Rebel."

• The video was deliberately modeled on vintage horror cinema, particularly the 1932 film "White Zombie."

• Costume designer Leimomi Oakes recreated the dress associated with Madge Bellamy's character in "White Zombie." The production became her screen debut as a costumer.

• Elizabeth de la Rey plays the central Madge/Madeline character as well as fronting Porcelaintoy.

• The video's launch was held at Wellington's Roxy Cinema with a black-and-white 1930s Gothic dress code.
