Tobacco feat. Beck - Grape Aerosmith

Music Video

Wiki

Synopsis

A frustrated office worker moves through a drab day of phone calls, paperwork, and awkwardly staged routine before abandoning his workplace for the woods. There, his breakdown becomes a bizarre psychedelic ordeal involving brightly dressed figures, frantic movement, and surreal physical transformations. Meat appears to burst from his face while colorful strands erupt from his head, turning workplace anxiety into grotesque comic-book body horror. The video shifts from mock-documentary realism to an increasingly chaotic visual nightmare, matching Tobacco's warped electronics and Beck's detached vocal presence.

Factoids & Trivia

  • The video premiered in July 2010, shortly after "Grape Aerosmith" appeared on Tobacco's album "Maniac Meat," released through anticon.
  • The office scenes were deliberately shaped like a dry workplace mockumentary, creating a mundane setup before the video's abrupt descent into surrealism.
  • The production was inspired in part by the Japanese cyberpunk horror film "Tetsuo: The Iron Man," particularly its subway breakdown sequences.
  • James Petz plays the central office worker. The production credits also list Laurie Isabella as producer and costume designer, with Temperance David handling location scouting and production coordination.
  • The video was made for the second Tobacco track on "Maniac Meat" to feature Beck. Beck also contributed vocals to "Fresh Hex."
  • Tobacco reportedly sent Beck completed instrumental tracks, allowing him to create and edit his vocal parts remotely.
