Synopsis

After a motorcycle accident leaves him dying on the pavement, a young man moves through a chain of vivid memories from his relationship with a former love. He races through forests, beaches, streets, a subway station, and other dreamlike spaces, repeatedly following traces of the past while fireworks remain visible in the distance. As his consciousness fades, the journey carries him toward the place where the couple first met. Reaching that memory allows him to let go and pass into the afterlife.

Factoids & Trivia

• "In Mind" appeared on Brothertiger's *Future Splendors* album and was also issued as a three-track EP on September 10, 2013.

• The artist initially suggested imagery of young lovers in a forest setting off fireworks. The finished concept turned the song's title into a literal journey through the mind of a dying man.

• Production took place over two days in October 2013, while the visual-effects work continued for several months.

• Most of the live-action footage was shot on a RED Epic with Leica lenses. Steadicam photography helped the transitions flow from one memory to the next.

• The production was filmed at 96 frames per second, allowing the footage to be slowed to roughly one quarter of its recorded speed.

• The fireworks appear in the same area of the frame throughout the video, representing the final image imprinted on the protagonist's mind before the crash.

• The opening aerial shot required extensive post-production work. The unstable footage had to be stabilized, reconstructed from multiple takes, and extended with a digitally created canyon section.

• The visual-effects workflow included Boujou for 3D tracking, Mocha Pro for rotoscoping, After Effects particle tools for the fireworks, Nuke for frame adjustments, and DaVinci Resolve for color work.

• Each memory was given a distinct color character, including brown, green, orange, purple, and blue tones. The color treatment was designed to make the separate recollections feel like different mental spaces.
