Synopsis

An abstract, nocturnal visual journey unfolds in sync with the track's fractured rhythm and ghostly vocals. Dark urban textures, blurred lights, shifting shadows and layered digital imagery appear and dissolve as though seen through a malfunctioning camera or a half-remembered dream. Rather than presenting a conventional narrative or artist performance, the video builds an uneasy atmosphere through repetition, distortion and gradual visual transformation. Its imagery follows the music's movement from sparse, chilly tension toward a more expansive and luminous closing passage.

Factoids & Trivia

• The video was filmed and edited by the East London Observatory, the creative project associated with Karborn.

• It was made in 2011 to accompany "Ego," the collaboration between Burial, Four Tet and Thom Yorke.

• The film's dark, heavily processed imagery suits the track's combination of broken electronic percussion, atmospheric keyboards and Yorke's distant vocal.

• "Ego" was paired with "Mirror" on a limited vinyl-only double A-side released through Four Tet's Text label on March 21, 2011. Contemporary reports described the pressing as limited to 300 copies.

• Both tracks were first heard after being played during a Floating Points and Four Tet broadcast on London's Rinse FM in March 2011.

• The release extended an existing creative connection: Burial and Four Tet had already worked together on the 2009 single "Moth" / "Wolf Cub," while Burial had previously remixed Thom Yorke's "And It Rained All Night."
