Atlas Genius - Trojans

Music Video

Wiki

Synopsis

A fragmented relationship drama unfolds through intimate moments, uneasy encounters, and fleeting memories. Keith Jeffery appears at the center of the story as the characters move through spaces marked by emotional distance and unresolved tension. Images of closeness are repeatedly interrupted by separation, giving the video a dreamlike, unsettled quality. Rather than presenting a straightforward breakup narrative, it uses scattered scenes and performance footage to evoke the lingering presence of a past relationship that refuses to disappear.

Factoids & Trivia

  • The official video premiered in November 2012, ahead of Atlas Genius' debut album, *When It Was Now*. It was produced by Dave Szamet for Warner Bros. Records.
  • The cast includes Atlas Genius members Keith Jeffery and Michael Jeffery, alongside Zander Smith, Kayslee Collins, Henree Haitkin, Kendyl Powell, Kayla Powell, and Nan Taylor.
  • "Trojans" received an unusually broad visual treatment. Atlas Genius partnered with Vimeo to develop four different videos for the same song, allowing separate filmmakers to create live-action, stop-motion, and drawn-animation interpretations.
  • The other versions included a claymation film by Tyler Nicolson, a live-action relationship story by Celia Rowlson-Hall, a hand-drawn animation by Eric Funk, and a New York-set treatment by PotsNPans featuring Alexandra Miller.
  • "Trojans" was the first song Atlas Genius completed after building a recording studio in their Adelaide home. The band wrote, recorded, and produced it with keyboardist Darren Sell.
  • The song became the band's breakthrough track after being uploaded independently. It later reached No. 4 on Billboard's Alternative Songs chart and helped Atlas Genius secure its deal with Warner Bros. Records.
