Wiki

Synopsis

Set against the stark, otherworldly landscape of Lithuania, the video follows a tense and enigmatic encounter between Dan Smith and a young woman. The story unfolds through fractured images of a traveling group, wolves, a waiting car, a gun, and a distinctive golden bullet. Romantic tenderness gives way to violence and uncertainty as the characters' connections remain deliberately unclear. The narrative ends with blood, flight, and disappearance, leaving the video's supernatural-looking crime story open to interpretation.

Factoids & Trivia

  • The video was filmed in Vilnius and Kedaineiai, Lithuania, and released on July 13, 2013.
  • The barren landscape near Kedaineiai was formed by phosphogypsum deposits associated with a fertilizer factory. Dan Smith later described the location as resembling another planet.
  • The production was organized unusually quickly. Because Bastille were touring Europe, the creative team traveled to Lithuania to scout locations only two days before filming, with the local pre-production completed over a single weekend.
  • Lithuanian actress Ausrine Abramaityte plays Smith's love interest. She was contacted through a casting agency while attending her brother's wedding and initially did not realize which band was making the video.
  • Abramaityte recalled that filming took place in a factory, fields, and city streets, with the group working through the night before leaving Lithuania early the next morning.
  • A behind-the-scenes film was released in August 2013, showing the band joking around with a prop gun and interacting with Abramaityte.
  • Smith later called the video his favorite Bastille video, praising both the unusual Lithuanian locations and the atmosphere created by the production.
