Black Moth Super Rainbow - Windshield Smasher

Music Video

Wiki

Synopsis

A young couple takes a wrong turn onto an isolated back road, where their stalled journey quickly becomes a nightmare. A gang of orange-masked attackers surrounds the car, smashes its windshield, and subjects the pair to a bizarre, ritualistic assault. The hoodlums pin the victims against the vehicle, force cake into their mouths, and cut their hair before abandoning them. The video combines crude menace, absurd comedy, and deliberately scruffy violence, matching the song's warped psychedelic-pop energy.

Factoids & Trivia

  • Released on August 7, 2012, the clip was the first music video from the album "Cobra Juicy."
  • The video was produced as part of the campaign surrounding "Cobra Juicy," which Black Moth Super Rainbow financed through Kickstarter. The campaign also offered fans distinctive full-head orange masks.
  • The orange masks worn by the attackers echoed those fan rewards, extending the project's visual identity from merchandise into the video itself.
  • Tom Fec later explained that the original concept had been intended as a larger-budget production, but had to be scaled down. He wanted the album's first video to make an immediate impact, which led to the deliberately aggressive baseball-bat imagery.
  • The clip's combination of bright costumes, homemade-looking violence, and surreal comic details reflects Fec's preference for visual work that avoids straightforwardly happy or dark moods.
  • "Windshield Smasher" first appeared online in July 2012, before the song's official single release. The accompanying maxi-single included remixes by Odd Nosdam, Junk Culture, Longmont Potion Castle, and Zackey Force Funk, plus the B-side "The Runner."
