Synopsis

At a Saturday-night disco, a shy young man spots a glamorous woman and is immediately drawn to her. As the evening unfolds, his nervous attempts to approach her give way to an unexpectedly intimate encounter. The story plays like a cheeky, heightened pop fantasy, with the band appearing as cardboard cutouts and television images rather than taking part in the action directly. Its bright dance-floor setting and playful visual style echo the romantic scenario depicted on the single's sleeve artwork.

Factoids & Trivia

  • The video stars real-life friends Pat and Jo Skinny, who play the young couple at the center of the story.
  • Its concept was adapted from the narrative presented on the "Disco 2000" single sleeve, designed by Donald Milne.
  • Pulp's members appear as cardboard figures and on television screens instead of performing conventionally. Drummer Nick Banks later described it as the easiest video the band had made.
  • The promo was recorded in November 1995 and uses the song's 7-inch mix rather than the album version.
  • Two edits circulated. The promotional "adult version" includes a brief underwear shot and a more suggestive dance-floor moment, while the alternate edit tones down both scenes.
  • The adult version was included on Pulp's 2002 video compilation *Hits*.
