Synopsis

The video opens as a mock sports broadcast, with Mase reporting from a championship golf tournament where Puff Daddy, nicknamed "Puffy Woods," attempts a decisive putt. After the tournament, the action shifts into a surreal world of fire, money, flashing lights, dancers, and futuristic chambers. Puff Daddy and Mase rap while floating in pressurized air, while archival footage of the late Notorious B.I.G. appears during his verse. The clip closes as a flamboyant celebration of wealth, fame, and Bad Boy's larger-than-life image.

Factoids & Trivia

  • The video was released in July 1997, several months after The Notorious B.I.G.'s death on March 9, 1997. Because he died before filming, his appearance was created from archival footage carefully synchronized with his recorded verse.
  • The opening golf segment uses "Puffy Woods" and "Mase Gumbel" as playful references to golfer Tiger Woods and sportscaster Bryant Gumbel. The concept reflected the heightened attention surrounding Woods' rise in professional golf.
  • Production designer Ron Norsworthy created the video's futuristic environments, including a fluorescent-lit tunnel and a stark white chamber where pressurized air makes Puff Daddy and Mase appear weightless.
  • Kelly Price appears on a screen inside the floating chamber, performing the chorus associated with the song's interpolation of Diana Ross' "I'm Coming Out."
  • The reflective red outfits became among the defining examples of Bad Boy's "shiny suit" style. Stylist June Ambrose has said that the look was inspired by metallic fabrics, Caribbean carnival imagery, and the video's futuristic treatment.
  • The clip's combination of luxury imagery, sci-fi sets, comedy, choreography, and aggressive visual excess helped establish the glossy, highly commercial aesthetic associated with Bad Boy's late-1990s videos.
  • The video also features appearances by Sheek Louch, Riddick Bowe, Stevie J, and Nashiem Myrick.

Lyrics

(feat. Mase, Puff Daddy)

[Verse One: Mase]

Now, who's hot who not
Tell me who rock who sell out in the stores
You tell me who flopped who copped the blue drop
Who jewels got robbed who's mostly Goldie down
to the tube sock, the same ol pimp
Mase, you know ain't nuttin change but my limp
Can't stop till I see my name on a blimp
Guarantee a million sales pullin all the love
You don't believe in Harlem World nigga double up
We don't play around it's a bet lay it down
