Synopsis

Kix's video for "Don't Close Your Eyes" contrasts bleak coastal imagery with an emotionally charged stage performance. Black-and-white shots of the ocean and beach establish a lonely, desolate mood before the band appears beneath vivid pink lights. A distressed young woman waits beside a telephone, reinforcing the song's urgent plea to someone in crisis. The video moves between her isolation, the band's intense performance, and stark transitional images, creating a dramatic visual appeal that matches the power ballad's serious subject.

Factoids & Trivia

• The video was shot along the Southern California coast, with the Malibu area cited as the location.

• Its visual design deliberately shifts between monochrome coastal footage and saturated concert lighting, separating the song's somber subject matter from Kix's arena-rock presentation.

• "Don't Close Your Eyes" was released on Kix's 1988 album "Blow My Fuse" and became the band's biggest commercial success.

• The single reached No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100, making it Kix's only Top 40 hit.

• The song was written by bassist Donnie Purnell with Bob Halligan Jr. and John Palumbo. Its lyrics address teenage suicide, an unusually direct subject for a glam-metal power ballad of the period.

• Kix later included the video, along with behind-the-scenes material, on the 1989 home-video release "Blow My Fuse: The Videos."
