Synopsis

Green Day perform "Geek Stink Breath" in a grimy, distorted basement setting while the footage is interrupted by an increasingly graphic dental procedure. A friend of the band sits in a dentist's chair as one of his teeth is extracted, turning the song's references to methamphetamine and physical decay into deliberately uncomfortable imagery. The murky, low-resolution visuals and invasive close-ups create a harsh, almost documentary-like portrait of self-destruction.

Factoids & Trivia

• The video concept came from Billie Joe Armstrong, who suggested filming a friend with a history of drug problems and a serious sweet tooth while he had his teeth pulled.

• The dental footage was not staged as a conventional horror effect. It documents an actual tooth extraction and was used to connect the song's methamphetamine subject matter with dental deterioration.

• The band reportedly wanted the finished video to look even more extreme, asking for additional shots featuring bubbling blood.

• MTV intended the uncensored version for late-night programming because of the graphic extraction footage. Edited versions were distributed internationally.

• The song was written in 1994 and debuted live during Green Day's first appearance on "Saturday Night Live" on December 3, 1994, months before its release as the lead single from "Insomniac."

• In a 1995 interview, Mike Dirnt described the track as an ugly song about an ugly drug, while Armstrong said it was meant to describe the destructive state of mind associated with speed rather than serve as a simple pro- or anti-drug statement.
