George Michael performs alone in a dark, shadowy space as dancers move through a dreamlike landscape of dust, fire, water and sweeping shadows. A male and female dancer appear to struggle against time, separation and mortality, while two shirtless boys hold hands through separate wooden frames. The imagery is deliberately abstract rather than narrative, turning the song into a meditation on love, grief and memory. Near the conclusion, the boys disappear, reinforcing the video's ghostly sense of loss.

Factoids & Trivia

• The song was written as a tribute to Anselmo Feleppa, Michael's Brazilian partner, who died in 1993 from an AIDS-related illness. Michael later dedicated live performances of the song to him.

• Michael introduced "Jesus to a Child" at the MTV Europe Music Awards in Berlin on November 24, 1994, more than a year before its commercial release on January 8, 1996.

• The video's visual language uses dust, collapsing forms and a pendulum-like object to suggest passing time, the fragility of life and the erosion caused by loss.

• The BBC required the dancers' nipples to be pixelated for broadcast, while MTV limited the video to late-night rotation.
